About
Dr. Lampen-Smith returned to New Zealand to complete specialist training in Gastroenterology. During training she gained additional experience in Palliative Care and completed a Masters in Palliative Care in End-Stage Liver Disease. She followed this with a Hepatology (liver disease) Fellowship at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane. Since February 2016, she has been a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty (based at Tauranga Hospital with visiting clinics at Whakatane Hospital) where she has held leadership roles, including Head of the Department of Gastroenterology (2020-2022), Clinical Lead of the Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty Bowel Screening Programme (2020-2023) and Medical Leader of Medical Services (2022-2024).
With a clinical focus on all forms of liver disease, clinical nutrition and general gastroenterology, Dr. Lampen-Smith performs gastroscopies and colonoscopies and holds additional credentialing as a colonoscopist for the National Bowel Screening Programme.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr Lampen-Smith is regularly engaged in the training of junior doctors and nurses, helping to shape the next generation of healthcare professionals. Dr. Lampen-Smith is affiliated with the Hepatitis Foundation of New Zealand, a charitable trust supporting individuals living with hepatitis B throughout Aotearoa. She is an active member of the New Zealand Society of Gastroenterology (NZSG), as a member of the NZSG Hepatology Working Group and an inaugural member of the NZSG Equity Working Group.
Dr. Lampen-Smith is passionate about providing comprehensive patient centred care. With education and empowerment helping people to help themselves. She is committed to providing personalised care, ensuring patients are well-informed and actively involved in their treatment decisions.
