After your Surgery

Estimates

Once you have discussed your surgical requirements with your surgeon you may wish to get an estimate of costs. If you are using an insurance company, they will require a cost estimate before approving cover for your surgery. These costs are also in addition to your surgeon and anaesthetist costs.

To streamline the estimate process, it is helpful for you to have the following information before you begin

  • expected length of time for surgery
  • expected length of stay in hospital, ie. several hours or number of days. Your surgeon or one of his/her staff will be able to provide this information.

Please note, we are only able to provide an estimate of your surgery costs at this time. The exact cost can only be confirmed after your surgery has been completed and your account is made up at the time of your discharge.

When you get home
We strongly advise you have a capable adult with you for the first 24 hours following discharge from hospital. It's important that you rest during this time so it's helpful to have additional support.

It's normal to feel some degree of pain or discomfort after an operation - your surgeon and nurses will explain what is to be expected based on your procedure.  Please also feel free to call us if you have any queries.

Please call your surgeon or doctor immediately if you experience

  • increased pain or excessive swelling around the wound
  • nausea or vomiting
  • chest pain or breathing trouble
  • fever or chills
In the event of an emergency call an ambulance (111).
