Mark is an exponent of minimally invasive approaches such as laparoscopic and single incision laparoscopic surgical techniques in the management of colorectal diseases, abdominal wall hernia and gallbladder pathology. He prefers to use these techniques where possible to reduce trauma to the abdominal wall and improve the patient’s recovery.

Mark completed his general surgical fellowship in 2009 and successfully applied for the CSSANZ  two year colorectal fellowship programme. After completion of the programme in 2012, he commenced a consultant position in colorectal/general surgery at Tauranga hospital. Mark also is accredited by the NZ conjoint committee for the performance of both gastroscopy and colonoscopy.

Mark practices at Tauranga Specialist Centre, and operates at Tauranga and Grace Hospitals. He publishes in the field of colorectal surgery, and takes an active part in research programmes within his surgical field at Tauranga Hospital, contributing to publications that arise from this research.

He has a particular interest in the surgical treatment of bowel and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and pelvic floor disorders.

Mark lives in Tauranga with his wife and three young children, and enjoys his very active family life as a healthy balance to his intensive professional work.
