Jeremy Rossaak

Jeremy Rossaak is a General Surgeon specialising in endoscopy and laparoscopy, and a Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland. One of his concerns is that his patients have all the information they need to make the right decisions about their treatment.

After studying medicine in South Africa, Jeremy came to New Zealand to complete his surgical training and to study for his PhD at Otago University. He undertook his first fellowship in Auckland and a second in pancreatic surgery in Glasgow, Scotland. Currently, he is a General Surgeon at Grace Hospital, has a private practice at Virtuoso, and is a Senior Lecturer in surgery at the University of Auckland.

His interest in teaching extends beyond his academic teaching role; Jeremy also teaches clinical students the skills they need for general and endoscopic surgery. Having a strong interest in relieving pain after surgery, he carries out programmes of research that explore new ideas in post-operative care.

With a preference for using minimally invasive techniques where possible, Jeremy has developed improvements in surgical and endoscopic techniques. He has written and published on the effective use of minimally invasive endoscopic surgical techniques.

Jeremy believes the future of medicine is in patient-centred care. He makes sure his patients have a clear understanding of all the facts they need to make informed decisions regarding their care.
