Andrew Vane

A consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the Grace Orthopaedic Centre, Andrew has a special interest in primary and revision hip and knee joint replacement and sports knee surgery. He also has a personal commitment to volunteering his orthopaedic services to the people of the Pacific Islands where he is involved in education and providing orthopaedic surgical care.

Andrew gained his MBChB at Auckland Medical School in 1997 and his FRACS (Orth) in 2007. Following this, Andrew completed a sports knee fellowship at the Perth Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre in Perth, Australia in 2008. He then completed a Hip Replacement Fellowship at the Royal Devon and Exeter Foundation Trust in Exeter, England in 2009. In 2010 he took up a Hip and Knee Replacement Fellowship at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Scotland. Andrew returned to Tauranga, NZ at the end of 2010 to commence work as an Orthopaedic Surgeon.

Andrew believes in a well-rounded approach to musculoskeletal health and strives to work with each person to achieve the best outcome for them. Treatment can involve surgery, but he also works closely with allied health practitioners, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists and dieticians, to ensure his patients have appropriate support and the rehabilitation they need.

Andrew is involved in the teaching of medical students and Orthopaedic trainee registrars at the Tauranga Public Hospital. He is actively involved in academic research, with journal publications and presentations at national meetings.

Having grown up in Tauranga, Andrew is pleased to be living back in the Bay of Plenty with his wife and 2 young children, enjoying sports and the outdoors with them as often as possible.
