Jonathan is a general cardiologist with special interests in implanted cardiac devices (pacemakers and defibrillators), sports cardiology and inherited cardiac disease. He has advanced qualifications and experience in diagnostic angiography, echocardiography and pacemaker and defibrillator implantation.
After graduating from Otago Medical School and Christchurch Clinical School, Jonathan trained in Cardiology at Christchurch Hospital, then went on to complete a fellowship in cardiac imaging and adult congenital heart disease at the Yorkshire Heart Centre, Leeds, in the United Kingdom.
He has post-graduate qualifications in Pacing and Defibrillation from the international Heart Rhythm Society, an aspect of cardiology in which Jonathan has a particular interest.
Jonathan has been a Consultant Cardiologist at Tauranga and Whakatane Hospitals since 1999, and Clinical Director since 2005.
Jonathan has been a member of the New Zealand committees of the College of Physicians and the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand. He is current Chair of the Midland regional cardiac planning group and is the local representative of the New Zealand Cardiac Inherited Diseases Group.
Jonathan has raised his family in the Bay of Plenty since 1999 and is a keen road cyclist and mountain biker.
