Robert Cable
Rob is a bariatric (obesity) surgeon who specializes in laparoscopic (keyhole) sleeve gastrectomies. He operates exclusively at Grace Hospital.
Since Rob performed his first gastric sleeve procedure in 2006, he has seen demand for this operation increase significantly. As well as the benefits of the surgery becoming more widely known, gastric sleeve does not have the same potential for malabsorption which can be associated with gastric bypass procedure. Rob has a real patient focus, and genuinely enjoys being part of the physical transformation and lifestyle of his patients. Once they reach their goal weight, he loves witnessing the very happy and exciting moment when patients see the contrasting preoperative photos compared with their new selves. Rob is a member of OSSANZ (the Obesity Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand), and IFSO (the International Federation of Obesity Surgeons). He’s also a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Australasian College of Surgeons. His general surgical interests include gallbladder surgery, hiatus hernia and acid reflux, appendicectomy, and inguinal hernias. Rob lives in Tauranga with his wife and the youngest of his four children. He enjoys hiking, skiing, golf (mostly), and has run four marathons.
